Canucks expose Miller, Sbisa; protect Sedins, Horvat

The long-awaited list of which players are and aren’t protected for this week’s NHL Expansion Draft was finally unveiled this morning.

The Vegas Golden Knights, the NHL’s 31st franchise, must pick one player from each of the other 30 teams during Wednesday’s draft. All current NHL franchises are allowed to protect one goalie and either A) seven forwards and three defensemen or B) eight skaters. Of the 30 players the team will select, Vegas must choose at least 14 forwards, nine defensemen, and three goalies.

As per the NHL’s official statement, the Vancouver Canucks opted to go with option A and protected the following players:

Markus Granlund (F)
Bo Horvat (F)
Daniel Sedin (F)
Henrik Sedin (F)
Brandon Sutter (F)
Alexander Edler (D)
Erik Gudbranson (D)

This leaves the following players available for Vegas to scoop one. One of these players will be playing in Nevada next season:

Vegas has until 7 AM PT Wednesday to submit its picks, which will be announced during the 2017 NHL Awards and NHL Expansion Draft at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada later that night
