Foodie Fridays serving by example, win BC community award

Prince George’s love affair with food is golden with the province!

The City’s Foodie Fridays program has been recognized by the BC Economic Development Society, winning an award for Best Community Project in 2016.

Manager of Economic Development Melissa Barcellos says it’s nice to lead by example.

“They use recipients to showcase project ideas for other communities to follow, and to set up programs similar to what we’ve done in their communities and help their businesses achieve the same opportunities.”

The program brings local businesses downtown, in front of City Hall, to participate and sell their product to the public.

Barcellos says the City even waived permit fees to get kitchens buzzing.

“We thought it was really important to offer the full service experience. All the vendors had to do was show up, set up as they normally would sell food, and then when they were done, they would leave. The ease of participation really helped make this a success.”

Foodie Fridays fire up the grill every week throughout the summer from 11AM to 2PM.
