There’s a new beer in town.
Pacific Western Brewery unveiled its latest brew, Festbier, just in time for Oktoberfest, Wednesday .
PWB says it celebrates a number of milestones – from Prince George’s centenntial to the Canada Winter Games, with their signing on as an official sponsor.
Creative Director Paul Mulgrew says the new beer will also help continue their relationship with UNBC, who will get Festbier at the campus pub.
“From their backyard barbecue to all their major events, they always think of us first, it’s a great partnership,” he says. “For the Canada Winter Games, they’ve been awesome partners so far, now we’ve got a vehicle that speaks to our product, as well as their ventures and their events that we can all jointly push.”
As for the taste, Mulgrew says a German brew master personally oversaw its creation to make sure it goes down with the best Oktoberfest brews.
“It’s very drinkable, because you’ve got to be able to drink a litre of it,” he says. “It’s very nice, it’s not flavourless, it’s very flavour-full . It’s got a subtle hint of caramel, very malty, not too hoppy, it’s bang-on, to me.”
Mulgrew says it will also put Prince George on the map for craft beer enthusiasts.
“I think it’s a very unique product, there’s not many 500ml bottles on the market right now,” he says. “I think we’re doing something very different and as long as the market accepts it, we’ll try to keep it around”.
Mulgrew says Festbier should hit PG shelves by next week and be available for the duration of the 2015 Canada Winter Games.
