Companies taking too much cardboard to the Foothills Landfill will soon face a surcharge

Companies taking too much cardboard to the Foothills Landfill will soon face a surcharge.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is implementing this fee to promote recycling.

“Sixty percent of the waste comes to the landfills from the commercial sector. Seventeen percent of the waste that makes up the waste stream is paper and cardboard.” RDFFG Waste Diversion Program Leader Laura Zapotichny

Starting July 1st, you’ll pay an extra 50% if your load contains 25% or more cardboard

To avoid the fee, businesses can rent cardboard bins, take boxes to a recycler, or drop off small amounts at a local collection point.

This will not affect residents at all.
