Final arguments at the Cody Legebokoff trial saw the Defence recap the last three months of hearings.
Lawyer James Heller began by addressing Legebokoff’s testimony that three other people, known only as “Mr. X, Y, and Z” were responsible for the murder of several women that he stands accused of, basically saying if Legebokoff were such a good liar, he could have told a better story than that with four years to think about it.
In his further statements to the jury, Heller spoke on the drug history of the women, while also speaking against the evidence, and absence of evidence, that pointed to his client’s sole guilt in their murders, reciting testimony from others that they feared for their own safety over debts owed to known drug dealers.
Heller brought up the medical history of one of the women, Loren Leslie, stressing she had treatment for suicidal behaviour, before Legebokoff alleges she fatally stabbed herself in the neck with his knife.
Heller’s main goal is to see Legebokoff accused of second-degree murder for four women, rather than first degree murder.
