CUPE says PG schools will be ready to go Sept 2nd.

Even if a deal is reached at the 11th hour for BC teachers, local schools will be ready to go September 2nd.

CUPE 3742 President Karen Wong says custodial staff has already been inside of area schools to clean and do clerical work for the coming school year, even though no deal has been reached between teacher’s federation and the province.

“The schools are spick-and-span and ready to go,” Wong says. “Any other CUPE members that haven’t gone into work, if their start date is blocked by any job action, we’ll just work day-by-day and see what comes of it.”

The province had alluded to the lockout being over for teachers to come in during the end of summer to prepare for the school year, though the Teacher’s Association had clarified that order only applied to CUPE unions.
