Big changes coming for Vanderhoof students

School District 91 is preparing Vanderhoof students for big changes this fall.

The School Board voted to close Prariedale Elementary and send grade seven students to Nechako Secondary School.

Manu Madhok says the change won’t be much of a shock for students, as the past year has been spent giving them orientations on what to expect, come September.

“The piece that will be new for them is what the facility looks like,” Madhok says. “It went through an upgrade, so it’s going to look fairly brand new to them.”

“Of course, there will be opening events, assemblies , team building, those kinds of things, but nobody will be surprised by the structure, because we spent lots of time going through that with kids and parents,” he says.

As for elementary students Prariedale, they will be disbursed to either of the four other schools in the area; Sinkut View, W.L. McLeod, Mapes, or Evelyn Dickson Elementary.

This of course hinges on whether or not the teachers’ federation and the province come to terms on a new deal before school starts.
