Fire fighting cost surpasses $200 million in BC

The annual cost of fighting wildfires in BC this year has passed $200 million.

A large portion of that spending is happening in the Prince George area with the regional total near $56 million.

Fire Info Officer Jill Kelsh says it’s a case of larger fires, this year.

“We normally see around 400 forest fires, per year,” Kelsh says. “This year, we’re actually quite on-average for number of forest fires, basically this year, we’ve just burned a lot more ground. So we’re at quite a bit above average for hectares burned.”
