Highway 16 is open to traffic again, after the threat from the China Nose fire had the road closed
The highway was closed overnight between Burns Lake to Topley as traffic was diverted through a gravel road. Oversize vehicles were supposed to be turned-back, but were also allowed on the narrow stretch.
The China Nose fire near Houston has shrunk down to 3700 hectares, according to the Wildfire Management Branch, though they say it is still 0% contained.
The evacuation order for 120 homes and alert for 574 homes has been reduced to 15 under an order and around 500 under an alert.
The District warns the highway could close again on short notice due to the fire and suggest monitoring DriveBC for the latest.
