A smoke advisory continues for the Prince George area.
Fire Information Officer Jill Kelsh says most of the smoke you’re seeing is from the Chelaslie River fire just over 200 kilometers southwest of the city.
Though significant fires are burning near Houston (pictured) and Alexis creek, Kelsh says we are pretty safe here in PG, right now.
“We don’t actually have any fires that are close to Prince George,” she says. “Our closest fire is approximately 100 km to the southwest, but it is about 1000 hectares, but not threatening any communities.”
Kelsh says in the past 24 hours, the Widlfire Management Branch has seen seven new starts in the PG region, two of those in the PG fire zone, but she says they are small “spot size” fires being quickly dealt with.
As with all smoke advisories, the city advises people with respiratory issues to avoid strenuous outdoor activity .
Transit is also free until midnight, the day the advisory ends.
