CNC students receive national recognition

Two Medical Radiography students at the College of New Caledonia are getting national honours for their research.
Essays written by Terry Mitchell and Shannon Carlsen have been recognized by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists.
Mitchell won their contest for his essay entitled “Validation of Compute Tomography Use in Pediatric Appendicitis Diagnosis”, which will soon be published in the Journal of Medical Imaging.
Meanwhile, Carlsen’s essay, “Is Computed Tomography Colonoscopy a Better Screening Method for Colorectal Cancer than Colonoscopy ?” was judged within five points of the winning essay and was given a certificate of merit as acknowledgment .
Program Coordinator Leanne Evanow says these accolades look great on a resume and open up many networking possibilities in their field.
‘I know that when Terry went to accept his award, he was actually able to network with national and international educators within the radiography community,” she says.
Both are completing their studies in the field — Mitchell in Prince Rupert and Carlsen is in Dawson Creek, with graduation set for later this month.
