Stikine MLA gives insight into CN / Gitxsan dispute

One of the MLA’s at the heart of the Gitxsan and CN dispute says it’s unfortunate the company and people who rely on its goods are caught in the middle.
Stikine MLA Doug Donaldson also serves as Aboriginal Relations Critic and says the root of the problem is a flaw in the treaty process .
“It’s not until stage five of a six stage process that the actual land that is going to be offered gets tabled and it’s only at that point that neighbouring first nations actually hear about whether it’s going to impact their territories or not,” he says.
The Gitxsan’s reaction to news their disputed land was being offered without their consent was to evict all sport fishing, forestry, and rail off their land.
While they have threatened to blockade CN’s operations the rail company is responding with a court injunction.
