Stay out of fire-zones, warns Management Branch

While crews battle the numerous fires around the Prince George Fire Centre, they ask that the public stay out of areas where active fires are burning.
“We had an incident where the public went into an active fire area, put themselves right in front of the fire, we had to stop all of our aerial suppression on the fire, and our crews had to go from the fire to get them out of the area, before we could continue,” says Information Officer Jill Kelsh.
“We are also experiencing newer fires every day,” she says. “We just want to make sure that people are really aware, if they’re seeing columns of smoke, to call them in, but don’t necessarily go out looking for them, because we might have air tankers or helicopters going into that area to start actioning the fire.”
Kelsh advises people to check BC Wildfire.ca to see where There are currently 24 active wildfires in the PG Fire center and a ban on entering the forest near the Red Deer Creek fire near Tumbler Ridge.
