Prince George will be ready to party come Canada 150 Celebrations on July 1st, 2017.
The City, along with Conservative MP for Cariboo-Prince George Todd Doherty, has announced three major events will be occurring to commemorate the country’s historical birthday.
The Federal government is fully funding the City’s 150 celebrations; a total cost of $276,000.

Mayor Lyn Hall is grateful and says these will demonstrate the public’s creativity.
“This is big for our community. It’s a big celebration and we’re used to those celebrations as a result of the 2015 games, so I’m looking forward to 2017. It’ll be a lot of fun with a lot of activities for people to take advantage of.”
The three projects include the Canada 150 Heatwave, a concert series starting July 1st, partnered with the Prince George Folkfest Society; the Canada 150 Patchwork, a wall portraying diversity and originality, partnered with the Prince George Potters’ Guild; and the Canada 150 Mosaic, a mural placed on a railway car with painted tiles, partnered with the Two Rivers Gallery.
“There’ll be others across Canada in different communities, so on the web, you’ll be able to see the whole train from beginning to end which will be great. We can have young and old people, every age come and contribute to it,” says Two Rivers Managing Director Carolyn Holmes.

She adds it’s important for everyone, as Canadians and citizens of the community, to be a part of history.
“We always want people to get out and exercise their creative side, express themselves, have fun, know that making art and contributing to something like this will be great.”
The Mosaic project will begin in early Spring and is expected to be ready by the Gallery’s KidzArt Dayz on July 7th and 8th.
