Mongomo putting up big numbers, earns Canada-West 3rd Star of the Week

A UNBC Lady Timberwolves basketball phenom has been recognized by the Canada-West conference.

Guard Maria Mongomo is named the Canada-West Third Star of the Week after delivering back-to-back, double-double performances this past weekend.

The Las Palmas, Spain native tallied a 10-point, 11-rebound performance in just 26 minutes, as the Timberwolves took out Mount Royal 70-48 on Saturday night.

The following evening, the second-year psychology student had 15 points, 11 rebounds, and two steals as UNBC completed a crucial sweep of the Cougars with a 64-55 victory.

Mongomo is averaging 8.4 rebounds per game; 15.9 points per game, good enough for 9th best in the Canada-West conference, and is also ranked 6th in steals with 2.8 per game.

The Lady T-Wolves improved to 5-9 and are firmly in the playoff picture.
