hot & dry weather this week increases wildfire risk

There is a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the Prince George area.
Environment Canada says strong wind gusts, heavy rain, and large hail is expected, with the potential to cause property damage.
The potential for lighting today only adds to the increasing risk of wildfires in the area, given the hot and dry weather for the week ahead.
Here’s Information Officer Jill Kelsh with the Prince George Fire Centre.
“With that said, we have manned-up and we have close to 600 firefighters within the Prince George Fire Centre alone, “Kelsh says. “We’ve also been able to make good headway on the majority of our fires while we had a decrease in activity.”
However, she says there is no plan yet to put a campfire ban in place, though open back yard burning is banned and some forest access is still restricted.
The largest fire in the region is still the Tenakihi fire near Williston Lake at 44,000 hectares.
