2017 Downtown Winter Carnival will showcase snow sculptors, s’mores

Downtown Prince George will be hosting their annual Winter Carnival next month and it’s set to be a ‘true’ winter wonderland.

That’s according to Executive Director Colleen Van Mook, who says there’s be one special event her organizing committee hopes will turn some heads.

“We have two internationally renowned sculptors who will be using our Prince George snow to create amazing pieces of art.”

Peter Vogelaar and John McKinnon will be showcasing their talents to everyone who comes to the carnival.

Van Mook adds for Vogelaar in particular, this will be a great opportunity to bring his ties with our province to the Prince George community.

“He was so excited and very keen to come. It really worked out as far as his schedule, so not only is he going to be creating pieces of art, but he’s actually the person who’s going to build our ice-snow slide as well.”

Other activities will include a road hockey game, the Cottonwood Express train, and a s’mores recipe competition, which invites anyone to bring their creativity and original spin on the tasty treat.

Van Mook says those sales will be going towards the charity of the seller’s choice.

“We really wanted to invite people to participate, build teams, and have some fun with this event as well. We just thought that would be a great opportunity for people to put their individual slant on the groups that they want to support.”

The carnival takes place on February 12th from 11AM to 5PM.
