BC Hydro issues another planned power outage for West Prince George

BC’s Ministry of Transportation and infrastructure (MOTI) is continuing their lane expansion on Highway 16 near West Prince George on Sunday.

As a result, BC Hydro is having another planned power outage, affecting nearly 450 customers from Bunce Road to Blackwater Road.

Spokesperson Bob Gammer says the outage is only expected to last three hours as opposed to six.

“This is work to relocate lines to power poles that are now farther away from the centre line of the highway, and we had initially scheduled this one on Sunday of that amount of time as well, but we’ve been able to reduce it.”

Gammer says the outage will take place between 10AM and 1PM.

The MOTI is moving power poles from the centre of the highway, forcing BC Hydro to shut down power in the area.

Gammer encourages residents to be prepared for the amount of time they’ll be without heat.

“If necessary for somebody to leave their residence for a period of time to find a warmer place. If they have alternative sources of heat that they can safely heat their home for the three hours, then that’s another option as well.”

He also apologizes in advance for any inconvenience this will cause.

“We also do apologize for any confusion because we had initially indicated this outage was going to be six hours. We do want to make sure people are aware that it will be only three hours, so we’ve reduced the amount of time that will impact customers.”

Gammer is saying however, if the weather isn’t co-operating, then BC Hydro will cancel the outage altogether.
