One of Prince George’s most recognizable volunteers is the recipient of a national piece of hardware.
Tom Dielissen has been honoured with the Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers at tonight’s council meeting.

He’s also very humbled by the outstanding honour and credits the other city volunteers as well.
“I know that there’s thousands of community volunteers in Prince George and they’re all deserving. So, to me, this is for everybody.”
Dielissen says he’ll continue to be involved in the Prince George community for as long as he can, adding that others should look at the positives of volunteerism.
“You get a sense of accomplishment that you actually did something, you get a sense of community, that you’re working in the community, and you get personal satisfaction; three things back. It’s so true; you just give, and you’ll get.”
He’s known for the decades of committed time to Exploration Place, the PG Public Library, UNBC Athletics, St. John’s Ambulance, the PG Film Commission, Theatre North West, and many more.
In a letter written by Governor-General David Johnston, and read by Mayor Lyn Hall, the government congratulated Dielissen for his service and that the medal exemplifies impact made on a community.
