The City of Prince George has issued a level one emergency operations centre due to recent ice build up on the Nechako River.
Senior Communications Officer Mike Kellett says they’ll continue to keep a close eyes on the situation.
“Crews with the Prince George Fire and Rescue Service and the city have been monitoring the river levels around the clock and have observed an increase in water levels just around the two kilometres around the confluence of the rivers but Cottonwood Island Park will remain open at this time.”
Yesterday morning, river flow levels were estimated at 200 cubic metres per second, which is about twice the normal flow for this time of year.
A section of the Heritage River Trail is closed between the Cameron Street Bridge to Kiwanis Park.
The city hopes to have an update by Friday afternoon.
