The province has appointed a former municipal chief administrative officer to advise the Village of McBride.
Isabell Hadford has 25 years of experience working with smaller, rural communities in BC. She will work with McBride’s municipal staff, the two remaining members of the Village’s council and community to stabilize short term municipal operations. She will be reporting to the inspector of municipalities. The inspector has already met with the remaining council members and staff to discuss Hadford’s role and the expectations for the reduced council.
Hadford’s appointment was part of a Ministerial Order signed by Minister of Community Peter Fassbender at the end of November.
The top priority for council is to appoint a chief election officer and deputy chief election officer to organize a by-election. They are expected to meet on December 19 to make the appointments. The village’s by-election must be held on a Saturday no more than 80 days after the chief election officer’s appointment.
Elections staff from the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George have said they will be available to support McBride’s by-election.
