Vanderhoof’s YMCA has been a solid option for child care over the past four months.
Chris Kinch is the Director of Membership for Northern BC and says the program has seen a steady increase in parents taking advantage of their services.
“The summer is a little bit slower for everybody, as people take their holidays,” he says. “But we’ve got another option out there, with summer club programs for school-age kids, as well.”
Kinch says they were there to meet the need for parents looking for child care during teachers’ job action, though he admits they were scrambling like everyone else.
“[It was a challenge] I think for all organizations who provide care to get their programs up and running and then provide alternative options for families, I think a lot of families also found other ways to juggle it, as well,” he says. “I don’t know if we saw a significant surge, but certainly there was an increase in demand at that point in time.”
