Cougars fans set new Teddy Bear Toss record for Salvation Army

The Prince George Cougars Teddy Bear Toss Night was a success at the CN Centre on Saturday.

Fans vaulted 3,896 stuffed bears over the glass and onto the ice surface after forward Josh Curtis netted the Cougars’ first goal of the game.

Salvation Army Business Manager Bill Glasgow says that’s a new record.

“About 10-15 years ago, we may have had the same number, but more with the teddy bears and less in the winter clothing area.”

Clothing donations were also collected from the nearly 5,800 fans in attendance; 2,077 articles of winter clothing to be exact, and Glasgow says he’s very grateful for the city’s support.

“Every year we see the teddy bear toss growing and not only with the teddy bears this year, but the amount of toques, hats, scarves, and winter clothing that was donated, it was just humbling to see that.”

“I always like to say that we’re very thankful for the people in Prince George; we can’t do what we do without them.”

Everything will be distributed amongst people in need in the community.

Glasgow adds the public can still give teddy bears, clothes, and cash donations to the Salvation Army’s location on Ospika Blvd.
