The Prince George Cougars picked up their 23rd win in their 33rd game in convincing fashion.

The Cougars scored late in each period as they trounced the Tri-City Americans 4-1 in the first of a doubleheader before 2,357 fans.

The Cats out-shot the guests 37-17.

17 year old Ethan O’Rourke opened the scoring with his first WHL goal.

Jared Bethune, Jansen Harkins and Josh Maser also tallied for the (23-8-2) Cougars who enjoyed period leads of 1-0 & 2-0.

The 17 year old Maser, from Houston, B.C., has two goals in two games in a Cats uniform.

17 year old rookie Beck Warm was sharp in the Americans net allowing three goals.

Prince George went 2 for 7 on the power play while Tri-City was 0 for 4.

The Cougars have opened up an 8 point lead on Kelowna and Kamloops in the B.C. Division and they are just a point behind Everett for first in the overall WHL standings.

The same teams meet again tonight (Wednesday) as the Cougars conclude a seven game home-stand in their final CN Centre appearance in 2016.
