Those without a place to stay will always have a warm bed in the city.
The B.C. government is giving $1.6 million to fund the extreme weather response shelter spaces throughout the winter. Locally, that’s 10 extra beds at ASAP Bridget Moran (1188 6th Ave.), Ketso Yoh (144 George St.), and AWAC Women’s (140 Quebec St.) shelters.
AWAC Executive Director Connie Abe says these extra beds have ensured there’s always room for those in need.
“We personally don’t have any challenges when it comes to the winter months because BC Hosing does provide us the opportunity to open up more beds so that those on the streets can (have) access.”
The extra beds are available from now until March 31, 2017.
