No more mo; clean-shaven mayor ends successful Movember campaign

Men in the city are looking sharper today, including the one in the Mayor’s Office.

December 1st marks the end of “Movember,” the annual, global, November-long, moustache-growing fundraiser for men’s health.

Mayor Lyn Hall headed to the barbershop early this afternoon to shave off his mo and end his competition – or “face off” – with Kamloops Mayor Peter Milobar. The two mayors and cities were competing to see which could raise the most money.

Combined, they accumulated $9,994. Mayor Hall and the City of Prince George won with a total of $5,718.

Mayor Hall says it feels good to win and even better to shave, but the best feeling is helping raise all that money.

“I want to thank the Mayor (Milobar) for challenging me because I think at the end of the day, that’s what this was all about. We had some fun with it over the month of November but at the end of the day, it was about raising this money for men’s health initiatives.”

The Mayor adds he’s thankful for a community that “stepped up to the plate” in more ways that one. The losing mayor has to wear the opposing city’s WHL team’s jersey at an upcoming home game.

“That wouldn’t have flown well at all. I’m a huge, huge Cougars fan so, for me, to wear a Kamloops Blazers jersey would’ve been very, very difficult.”

Mayor Milobar will wear a Cougars jersey for the ceremonial puck drop when to two play in Kamloops on February 19, 2017.

Proceeds from the 2016 Movember campaign will fund things like prostate and testicular cancers treatments, and mental health prevention.
