City crews working to fix watermain issue in downtown

The City of Prince George is asking for patience as crews work to fix a burst watermain at 3rd Avenue and Vancouver Street.

The issue started at about 9 am when the intersection and surrounding area were flooded with water. It is believed that a 12 inch pipe dating back to 1957 has burst. There will be an extended water outage for residents and businesses along 3rd Avenue and the surrounding area. At this point, the City anticipates it will take 12 to 24 hours to fix the issue – crews will be working through the night.

Once water is restored to affected residences and businesses, there will be a period of time where water will be cloudy, but safe to drink. At that time, residents will be advised by the City to run theirs taps for a few minutes to clear out the pipes until the water runs clear again.

We will post updates on the situation as they become available. You can also follow the City of Prince George’s Twitter and Facebook accounts  for updates, or contact the Service Centre for information at 250.561.7600.
