The Salmon River Bridge will be moved tonight so crews can begin construction on a brand new bridge. The 61-year-old structure will be closed for eight hours while it’s moved, which will begin at 10 PM Saturday.
The new bridge, 27 km north of Prince George along Highway 97, should be completed next fall. It will be wider and have a greater load capacity than the current bridge, which will permit larger trucks required to service the resource sectors. Removing the height restriction will also allow vehicles with oversized loads.
The re-located bridge will create a two-lane detour during construction.
It’s likely there will be short periods of single-lane alternating traffic during the beginning of construction.
