MLA Morris honouring crash victims by learning through their loss

BC’s Public Safety Minister Mike Morris is ensuring loved ones lost on the roads haven’t died in vain.

Accidents on BC’s highways have claimed about 290 British Columbians lives in each of the past two years.

Morris says the hardest part is knowing most of these are preventable. He says if drivers slowed down, drove to conditions, put their phones and electronics away, and drive sober, things would be a lot safer.

“It’s a big job with the police forces across the country to get that message into drivers but for some reason, we just can’t seem to get there.”

Police have cited that distracted driving and inattention was the cause in more than one-third of road crash deaths over the past 5 years.

Motorists fatalities are down but pedestrian deaths are rising.

Three Prince George pedestrians have been killed in the last two months, including one November 12th at Hwy 97 and 5th.

Morris recommends pedestrians wear bright clothing, take out their headphones, and that both drivers and pedestrians pay attention to help stop these incidents.
