Immigrant and Multicultural Service Society gets $7000 to celebrate diversity

Prince George’s Immigrant and Multicultural Service Society is the recipient of $7,000 from the province.

It’s one of 33 BC groups working through the Organizing Against Racism and Hate program to celebrate diversity. Between this year and next, BC is handing out $1.6 million to battle racism.

The money can be used on things like outreach and educational programs, workshops, and events.

Local MP Mike Morris says we can become a more accepting community through culturally-accepting programs.

“Educating people about how to spot racism in their community is a
valuable tool. There is no excuse for making someone feel unwelcome
because of their race, culture or heritage and we are fully supportive of
groups like Immigrant and Multicultural Service Society as they work to
stop racism in its tracks.”

BC is Canada’s most ethnically diverse province, welcoming almost 40,000 immigrants annually.
