The NorthBreast Passage Dragon Boat team is inviting Councillors out for a paddle.
Team member Enid Bond says they train all year round for summer competitions
“(We) lift weights, we do all sorts of agility. We do strength training and then come March, we move to the pool where we have our small ten-person dragon boat. (The boat is) tied to a very large steel pole in the pool and we work hard.”
The team is more than tough competition. It provide support for those with breast cancer, encourage cancer research, raise awareness of breast cancer in our region, and aims to physically and mentally improve the well being of survivors.
Councillor Garth Frizzell has accepted the invitation but admits it’ll be challenging to hold on.
“It sounds like they’re extremely fit. They’ve been doing this for a lot of years and I’m just going to have to try to keep up.
Mayor Lyn Hall was thinking the same thing.
“I don’t know if I’m going to be able to meet that (training) demand but I’ll certainly meet the demand of going out in the Boat on West Lake in spring.
The team is made up of Breast cancer survivors. The team will be back on the water when the ice melts.
