For many, the words customer service bring up feelings of frustration or even anger but the City of Prince George seems to be doing something right.
This Talktober, customer service representatives from the city greeted attendees at the door and asked about specific complaints and general feedback on how the city can improve.
“We gave an introduction first so we tried to kind of trap them to say, ‘Welcome! Thank you for coming! This is what’s going to be happening,’” says Lainy Stevenson, a customer service representative with the City of Prince George. “We had a lot of people come in and, overall, a really positive response. No negative comments at all.”
Stevenson says even she was surprised by the amount of positive comments.
“I thought maybe we’d have a couple of people who would be a bit upset or have a burning question but I think, overall, everyone was really positive about the changes the City has been making recently.”
She says one topic seemed to be on everyone’s minds.
“Downtown. Downtown came up a lot. People are pretty happy with the positive changes that have happened downtown like the parks that are being put in, the improvements to storefronts, the decrease in crime. The overall response was, ‘Hey, you guys are doing a great job but what else are we doing?’”
The customer service station was a new addition to Talktober this year – meant to give residents a chance to place specific requests, such as tree trimming, and also give general feedback. The information collected will be handed over to the appropriate department for action.
Stevenson says, overall, interactions with attendees were overwhelmingly positive.
