Lheidli T’enneh break ground on reserve’s first gas station

Ground broke this morning on the Lheidli T’enneh’s first gas station and convenience store.

“Tanno Fuels,” named after the Tanno T’enneh people of the area, was 16 years in the making and will be built across from the reserve’s Administration Building at 1041 Whenun Road. This will save many rural residents a trip into the city.

Chief Dominic Frederick thanks the different councils that worked on this over the years. He’s pleased the Band is now more noticeable in the city and calls this a move to the future.

“We’re becoming more recognized in terms of the territory and where we’re situated. We’re working on it.”

The event was well attended, which included members of City Council, MP Todd Doherty, and Regional District of Fraser-Fort George Chair Art Kaehn.

“This is great news, not only for the Lheidli T’enneh community but also the residents that live around here because they’ll now have services that they haven’t had in the rural part of the Regional District.”

The All Nation Trust Company funded the feasibility study, business plan, and will contribute money for construction, which is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The gas station and convenience store will open Spring 2017.
