3rd annual AleFest coming to Prince George

The third annual Kiwanis AleFest is heading to Prince George this January.

The event is scheduled for January 17th and 28th at the Two Rivers Gallery. There will be live music, silent auctions, tapas, and of course, beer. In fact, 60 different crafts beers from northern breweries in Prince Rupert, Terrace, Barkerville, southern ones from Squamish and Vancouver, and even ones made right here in the city.

AleFest Chair Bjorn Butow expects another sellout event, especially with how the craft beer industry is doing.

“I think why people are sort of enjoying craft beer and why it’s becoming popular is because people are looking for more flavourful, more variety of product. They also are interested in buying products that are locally made and handcrafted.”

According to Butow, craft beers make up 18% of all BC beer sales.

He promises a ticket will also be morally rewarding. A lot of the event’s proceeds support Ronald McDonald House in Vancouver.

“There are a lot of northern families that go down to (BC) Children’s Hospital and have to spend long periods of time at the hospital unfortunately so having a place to stay that’s close and affordable and near where they’re going through some difficult time is always a great thing.”

The event raised over $31,000 in the first two years for Ronald McDonald house and local Kiwanis kids projects.

Butow is still looking for volunteers and sponsors for the event. Tickets go on sale October 15th at 8 AM.
