Fire in Spruce Capital Trailer Park

At 12:15 this afternoon, the Prince George Fire Department received a call about a fire in the Spruce Capital Trailer Park, just off PG Pulp Mill road.

Fifteen firefighters from three halls were called to the scene along with five fire trucks.

“At this time, we don’t have an idea of what the cause is,” says Assistant Fire Chief John Heaslip. “Nobody was home at the time – occupants were out. We will be investigating this fire. No injuries reported.”

The trailer park’s location provided a bit of an extra challenge for first responders.

“There’s no hydrants in this trailer park so we have tender trucks that haul the water in. It takes a little bit longer to get set up. [Water’s] got to be ferried in. There’s a hydrant east of this location down toward Prince George Pulp Mill and we have to run the tenders back and forth.”

Heaslip says by the time crews arrived on scene the fire had spread through the trailer, forcing them to fight the blaze from the outside.

“Took about 50 minutes to get the fire under control. It was an exterior attack. Conditions were not safe and were deteriorating on the interior of the building so we decided to fight the fire from the exterior. It does take a little bit longer but it’s a lot safer for our firefighters.”

Only one trailer was involved in the blaze but the structure next door was damaged by the heat.
