Aging with Attitude Week offers free activities for Baby Boomers

It’s Aging with Attitude week this week at the YMCA of Northern BC.

“We are inviting all community members born between 1946 and 1964 to bring photo ID with proof of their birth date, starting on September 25,” says Stephanie Mikalishen, Manager of Philanthropy, Marketing and Camps. “They’re going to receive a free YMCA membership during the week of September 25 to October 1.”

Mikalishen says the idea came from a local resident who wanted to see more activities specifically for seniors take place in Prince George.

“We have a whole bunch of exciting activities happening. Starting on Monday the 26th, we have Boomer Zumba, Tai Chi, Mindful Yoga, Boomer Bootcamp, if you’re looking for something a little more intense and then we also have Beginner Pickleball.”

If you’ve never heard of pickleball, it’s described as a cross between tennis and squash.

Aging with Attitude is about helping Boomers in the community get and stay active

“Health risks increase as individuals age but studies have shown that physical activity later in life can reduce and sometimes even reverse those risks. It’s our hope and our intent to provide opportunities for individuals in our communities to engage in physical activities and social connection.”

For those who prefer to go to classes with a buddy, Mikalishen says other community members are welcome and the classes are free to all.

There are other events taking place throughout the city as well.
