Frizzell returns from FCM meeting in Ontario

Replacing Prince George’s infrastructure will be a top priority now that Ottawa has unveiled Phase 2 of it $48 billion dollar infrastructure fund.

The federal government announced during the Federation of Canadian Municipalities meeting in Halton, Ontario from September 13-16 that it will raise it’s contribution to 50% of the costs for municipal projects.

City Councillor, Garth Frizzell is a board member on the FCM and says municipalities across the country are struggling with growing infrastructure deficits.

“The cost is very large, some estimates across Canada a debt like is $133 billion dollars just in municipalities. Over the past five years, we have been really successful in getting Ottawa to help municipalities.”

Frizzell believes the board has made great strides in the past few years.

“We represent 90% of the people in Canada and when you go in with that kind of representation to MP’s in Ottawa it really makes a difference and this sustained work we’ve been doing is starting to pay off.”

Things like sinkholes have popped in the city over the past couple years, with bridges and culverts breaking down.

Frizzell says much of Prince George’s infrastructure is over 50 years old and is in its final stages.
