The Conservative Party of Canada is shaking things up.
Interim Conservative Leader Rona Ambrose rearranged the shadow cabinet today, giving six MP’s new positions.
Among them is Cariboo — Prince George MP Todd Doherty, who is now the Opposition Critic for Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard.
In a statement on the Conservative Party’s website, Ambrose says “Todd Doherty has been an effective MP from British Columbia and will hold the Liberals to account on the Fisheries and Coast Guard files, including the appearance of conflict of interest by the Minister.”
Doherty will also remain the Opposition Critic of the Asia-Pacific-Gateway. However, he will not longer be the Deputy Critic of Indigenous and Northern Affairs.
He’s looking forward to the new job.
“Any time you get a chance to get an increased role or responsibility is something that we strive for every day and anyway that we can benefit our team is what we’re up for.”
Doherty adds this is not only good for the riding but for the Province.
“Being a BC boy and a guy in the Cariboo, this is a great opportunity for us. There’s a lot of intricacies in this file that I’m really looking forward to, rolling up our sleeves and get as well versed in it as we can.”
Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies MP Bob Zimmer also has a new role. He is now Deputy Critic of Families, Children and Social Development.
