Prince George jobless rate drops a full point to 6.6%

The jobless rate in Prince George has fallen by more than a point in the past year.

Stats Canada Labour Analyst, Vince Ferrao says things are trending in the right direction. “We have an unemployment rate of 6.6% which is down from the 7.7% mark one year ago in August.”

Despite the decrease, Ferrao adds the local job market didn’t really change. “Employment held steady at 48,000, it’s not a result of more people on why the rate dropped it’s the fact there were some declines in the number of people in the labour force.”

BC’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in Canada at 5.5%.

The country’s jobless rate sits at 7%.

Employment in BC is up 3% in the past year putting 73,000 residents on the job.
