Prince George City Council will be talking parking tonight.
As the City gets closer to rolling out its licence plate recognition system, councilors will vote on a series of bylaws tonight that will accompany the big change.
Motorists who park in the downtown core now have three free hours of street parking. It was previously two, but a loophole allowed drivers and many downtown employees to move their car a block every two hours to avoid a ticket.
That loophole will be closed with the help of a licence plate recognition. The system is costing the City $172,000, which includes new ticketing systems and pay by plate stations. The bylaws will be enforced from 7am-5pm.
Fines are also going up; most will cost $50, with repeat offenders being dinged $75. Parking in a disabled parking stall will now cost $100.
