Bomb squad disposes of explosive device left in Cottonwood Island Park following arrest

The Prince George RCMP have issued an update on the incident Friday which left Cottonwood Island Park closed for much of the day. (previous story)

On August 19th at 10:30 AM, officers arrested a local 36 year old male in the park for for breach of probation and resisting arrest. The man had what police believed to be an explosive device, which led to the shutdown of the park. The BC RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit was called in from the Lower Mainland, and the man was transported to jail.

RCMP confirmed today that the device was indeed an explosive and was destroyed.

The suspect remains in custody and will likely face several charges. The man is known to police and has been charged for similar offences in the past.
