Highway 16 east of Vanderhoof receives much-needed passing lane

A $5.35 million dollar passing lane on Highway 16 just east of Vanderhoof is complete.

The area of Degel Pit Road will be a bit easier to travel on according to Mayor Gerry Thiessen. “Sometimes there is a backup of traffic in that area so this is a welcome passing lane which will make things much safer.”

According to Thiessen, it’s been a long time coming. “We see the traffic between Vanderhoof and Prince George is significantly greater than Fraser Lake further west so we see it as a major corridor.”

The presence of several sectors made it very congested too. “Certainly with mining and agriculture in the Nechako Valley and forestry as prominent as it makes it a busy corridor.”
