Midget Baseball Championship kicks off Thursday

Some of the Province’s best youth baseball players are in Prince George for the U18 AA BC Baseball Championship.

Lori Walters is the tournament organizer and a Mom of one of the hosting team Prince George Knights.

She has a bit of a bias but believes the hometown team can win it all.

“July long weekend we were in Newton and took a silver medal there and then in the middle of July we were in Kelowna for the ‘Valley of Champions’ and we took the silver medal there also so we’re due for the gold,” she says,

She adds fundraising was important this year, especially with the tournament held in the north. She notes that umpires are a big expense.

“We have to pay their travel and their food and their accommodations plus pay them to up the games so that’s about a $9000 bill, which people in the lower Mainland, they don’t face that if they’re hosting.”

The tournament begins at 8 AM Thursday and runs until 4:30 PM Sunday.

The Knights play at 8:30 AM Thursday.
