Local woman suing Province & BC Emergency Health Services over highway crash

A Prince George woman is taking BC Emergency Health Services, Provincial Government and several ‘John/Jane Does’ to court over a highway accident which took place on the night of Sept 2nd 2014.

Jena Lorimer claims she hit a moose carcass on Highway 97 near Dunkley Road, which was deposited on the shoulder by an RCMP officer, ambulance driver, tow truck driver and driver of another vehicle which had hit it shortly prior.

The lawsuit filed in Prince George Supreme Court last week alleges negligence from everyone involved in leaving the carcass on the shoulder of the highway, and the driver and owner of the vehicle who hit it in the first place. The RCMP officer and ambulance driver have also both been accused by Lorimer of failing to properly direct traffic and mark the moose carcass with flares.

The BC Emergency Health Services Foundation and Ministry of Justice are the only two specifically named in the lawsuit, everyone else is identified as one of seven ‘John/Jane Does’.

The claim states Lorimer lost control of her vehicle after hitting the dead moose, sending it down the embankment causing injuries that have continued to hamper her as well as depression, anxiety and sleep disturbance.

The lawsuit seeks damages, loss of wages, and medication and transportation and costs incurred by families members for lost wages who had to care for Lorimer.

None of the allegations have been proved in court.
