Canadian Native Fastball Championship wrapping up

A busy weekend at the Canadian Native Fastball Championship in Prince George finishes Sunday afternoon.

77 teams and about 1500 players and coaches have been participating in this weekend’s events.

Even with that many people, Chairman Harley Desjarlais says the tournament has run very smoothly and has exceeded all expectations.

“I can’t express in words how happy we are with the outcomes,” he says, “it’s partly due to the efforts of the volunteers and the organisation and we’re really, really happy with the contribution to Prince George. The city, all of the merchants, hotel owners, restaurants and everybody involved, directly or indirectly,” he says.

He says the weekend is more than just a baseball tournament and called it a “cultural experience.”

“All the kids, all the families, all the fellowship from people coming together for holidays and people planning their holidays around it, just to be able to facilitate that is a joy.

Weather permitting, Desjarlais hopes to have everything wrapped up by 9 PM Sunday.
