Prince George’s most refreshing competition is back this Wednesday, August 3rd.
Big Brother Big Sister’s “The Big Squeeze” lemonade competition happens Wednesday from 10 AM – 2 PM. You can step into any participating business, enjoy a sweet drink, and know your money is going to local BBBS programming.
There will be two awards up for grabs: the best tasting lemonade and most money raised. Events Assistant Cassie Lobban knows this is a lighthearted contest but the stakes are still high.
“The team that wins, they get our trophy – which is a pretty fun little trophy – and they also get the bragging rights. That seems to be enough to fuel a pretty healthy competition between all the different teams,” she says.
Lobban has been a part of the Big Squeeze for years and has studied past winners. While the competition doesn’t officially start for a few days, she knows that the real competitors advertise ahead of time.
“Jump on social media and start saying why people should come to your stand over other people’s stands and why yours is the best.”
The money will fund one-to-one, group mentoring (in schools and communities), and in-school mentoring programs.
Last year, the competition raised just under $10,000 and Big Brothers is aiming to raise $12,000 on Wednesday.
