The Prince George Search and Rescue helped the RCMP find a missing kayaker Saturday.
He left from Bowron River Rest stop alone early in the day and didn’t show up to meet family in the afternoon.
SAR says the man underestimated the time it would take to complete his trip and the skill level needed to conquer that part of the river.
When he realised it would be dangerous to go any further, he stopped on a small island and waited for help. Search and Rescue found him there and picked him up in a helicopter.
Everyone is reminded to never to travel alone in the backcountry and to always evaluate the time and skill needed to complete a trip.
If you’re in a survival situation like this one, Search and Rescue recommends you stop travelling, find shelter, and make yourself easy to spot.
