By the time Thanksgiving rolls around, you will be able to pick up a bottle of wine with your groceries at the Spruceland Save On Foods.
Work is underway on a 1,250 square foot section of the store dedicated to BC wine, to be supported by wine specific staff. The area will feature a tasting bar.
“We will bring the widest selection of BC VQA wines, supporting about 150 wineries from throughout BC. Up to about 1,000 different types of wine available for consumers in Prince George.” Overwaitea Foods VP of Merchandising Mike Olsen said
BC VQA stands for the ‘British Columbia Vintners Quality Alliance’, a system that guarantees origin of a wine with 100% BC grapes. Wines are submitted to trained tasters to test for any faults before being accredited. At this time Northern Lights Estate Winery is not a listed member on the BC VQA website.
“The way we are approaching it, is to bring selection to communities like Prince George that haven’t had the widest selection of BC VQA wines, we are excited to bring this to a market that hasn’t seen it before.” Olsen said
For now it looks like the Spruceland Save On Foods will be the only Overwaitea grocery store in Prince George to carry wine, Olsen noting that there are only 21 VQA licenses province wide at the moment.
