It’s going to be busy in Prince George this weekend.
Seventy-seven teams will take part Canadian Native Fastball Championships. Approximately 1,500 athletes, coaches and officials are expected to attend and the games are predicted to draw 5,000 spectators each day.
“That does pose some opportunities for criminals in some cases, whether it be breaking into vehicles, taking advantage of property left out,” says Prince George RCMP Corporal Craig Douglass. “So we are wanting to let the community know, as well as those participants and spectators, to be aware and protect their property.”
Don’t leave valuables in your car and be sure to keep an eye on your personal property while you’re enjoying events.
Douglass says the RCMP will be scaling up their presence this weekend.
“The Prince George RCMP have scheduled extra resources. We will be out and about throughout the weekend at the ballparks and in the community, just making sure that everything goes well. Much like the Canada Winter Games where we were quite visible. We’re going to try and do the same for this event.”
There will likely be more traffic on the roads as well, requiring a little extra patience from drivers.
“Throughout the weekend, with the increased amount of people in town, there will be increased vehicles. There will be more traffic on the road increased especially around the venues. So we are asking people to leave a little earlier, plan a different route away from Carrie Jane Gray Park and Freeman Park just to avoid that added congestion.”
If you see anything suspicious, don’t hesitate to contact the RCMP.
