Dawson Creek Mayor in PG tightening ties with Council

Dawson Creek Mayor Dale Bumstead has made the visit South to see Prince George City Council.

He presented at Monday’s meeting, looking to strengthen ties with our municipal government.

With amenities like the hospital and UNBC, Bumstead calls Prince George an influential neighbour.

“I thought it was important for me to come on behalf of the city of Dawson Creek and introduce our community from that perspective, that we are working hard at being a thriving city in the North but also establish that relationship with the Mayor and Council in Prince George.”

He believes both cities are stronger when helping each other, especially when facing an emergency.

“We had our flood here a month ago and one of the first people to call me was (Mayor) Lyn (Hall) who said ‘If you need something, call us.’ That’s what neighbours do; when your neighbour gets in trouble you want to reach out and I think it’s important we have that relationship.”

Stronger ties will benefit both cities in more than just an emergency situation.

Bumstead also wants to diversify the northern economy by strengthening all industries, including agriculture, natural gas, and tourism. This means less reliance on other industries like mining and logging and could benefit northern populations, finances, and quality of life.
